Is COVID19 getting less severe? Or, 4+ reasons you do NOT want to get infected!

Filmed live at the Hive, Atlanta, Georgia, on October 21, 2020. Dr. Baxter addresses the claim that COVID19 is getting less severe. There may be reasons we’re seeing fewer deaths than early and she’ll explain why we’re seeing fewer deaths, but why you still definitely want to avoid getting infected.

Mask wearing probably accounts for most of the reduction in COVID. Topics include: Severity through variolation; Youth and treatments help, but the 10% long haul syndrome and risk of stroke are the best reasons to keep up social distancing for just a few months more!

Variolation. Dr. Baxter 1st talked about this on September 16, 2020. A low amount of virus allows the body to mount an immune response that may be protective (without making you sick – or making you less sick). Thank you mask-wearing and nasal irrigation for reducing the viral load.

Long-haul syndrome. The death rate does not tell the whole story. You don’t be a “long-hauler.” Remember the long-term consequences for about 10% of people who get it (all people, regardless of underlying co-morbidities): clouded thinking, fatigue, body aches. Symptoms similar to fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome.

The benefits of youth. Young people are getting infected at higher rates now than earlier in the pandemic. Young people are less likely to have underlying conditions/co-morbidities. They’re less likely to have the severe immune response that’s causing deaths. There’s a 23% death rate for people 85+ who get the disease.

Treatments are improving. Decadron. Famotidine. Anakinra, IL-1 blockers, IL-6 blockers – people typically take these injections for #RA / rheumatoid arthritis.

Risk of stroke. There is still a risk of stroke with coronavirus. Anti-coagulation for hospitalized patients is important.

Bottom line: you do not want this disease! Keep social distancing, wear a mask, and practice nasal irrigation.
