MMJ Labs receives patent for pain control and increased blood flow

MMJ Labs, LLC, a medical device manufacturer and global innovator in pain management, is pleased to report receipt of the official United States Letters Patent for Devices And Methods For Increased Blood Flow & Pain Control, U.S. Patent No. 9333144, which was issued by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) on May 10, 2016.

“We have been broadening our base of pain relief therapeutics to incorporate improved blood flow and venous access, based on research showing our Buzzy® device improves phlebotomy success,” said Amy Baxter, founder and CEO of MMJ Labs. “Our flagship needle pain blocker Buzzy® is now in over 5000 hospitals and clinics worldwide. The research showing Buzzy not only improved pain but also venipuncture success led to the filing. We are thrilled to be involved with such a simple reusable technology that can have profound effects on access, healing and recovery.”

The Cool-Pulse technology, developed in part with funding from the NIH Small Business Innovative Research program, combines high frequency low amplitude vibration and a thermal pack that can add cooling or heating to disrupt nerve impulses of pain. The device patent includes any assembly with thermal source and vibratory source.

“Our mission is to eliminate unnecessary pain,” said Dr. Baxter. “Extra phlebotomy sticks hurt. The understanding of multiple ways that vibration and thermal sources can interact to improve blood flow will be a huge step forward for surgeries, burn recovery, and improved pain management.”
